Congressional District 3 is diverse.
Population growth, inflation, and climate change have affected different parts of the District differently and require different solutions.
As an active member of the community at large, I have extensive experience working with local councils and governments to benefit the community
Currently in my 6th year on the Summit County Council, Chair of the MAG Executive Council, UAC Board Member, Member of the Energy, Environment and Land Use Committee of the National Assoc. of Counties, and Board Member of the Community Renewable Energy Agency
I am running for Congress in a heavily Republican district. This is an opportunity for me, as a Democrat, to listen to a diverse community of interests and bring an alternative path to solving common problems facing our society.
As a member of the Summit County Council, I have found that all government service starts with listening to the public. We may not always agree on the solutions, but we frequently agree on the problems.
I have been privileged to have spent many days and hours over the past 5+ years interacting with other members of the Utah Association of Counties. Most of my fellow commissioners and council members are not of my party, but we have become friends and all of us have an abiding goal of improving our communities. I have learned much from my fellow UAC members.
Climate, water and growth will affect our way of life in the coming decades. CD 3 is a very diverse district. I am interested in exchanging ideas on politics and government and the future of our communities with you during this campaign.
The war in Ukraine has emphasized our need for secure and affordable energy. Electrification of transport, supported by locally produced renewable electrical energy will insulate us from price fluctuations and put a stake in the heart of petro-despots like Putin and others around the world.
Social issues
The Supreme Court's actions effecting women's Health, gun violence and the environment need attention from Congress.
Electrification of transport, supported by locally produced renewable electrical energy will also eliminate much of the air pollution that plagues the Wasatch Front and many other areas of Utah.
Economic growth is uneven accross the District. Climate change and its effects and responses will have major influences on different parts of the district. Finding solutions NOW is vital for the future of all of our residents.
The past 22 years have been the driest in the last 1,200 years.
We continue to cultivate ornamental grass. Recent measures by the state legislature are addressing this issue, but we all must do more.
The drought has caused ranchers throughout Utah to cull their herds. Agriculture has been the big loser in in this trend of dry years.
The long term predictions indicate that the dry years will continue until we reach a condition of net zero carbon
Agriculture and carbon extraction are incompatible. We will not long be able to do both.
Improving and enhancing the economies of our agricultural and carbon extraction regions must be one of our highest priorities.
